big taste, smaller waist

Eating healthy doesn't have to be bland or boring. Whip up some brown rice, mix in a little paprika, white pepper, and sliced tomatoes. Put it all over baked tortilla chips and you've got a seriously healthy nacho alternative. Can't live without the cheese? No problem - just use less than you normally would, or talk to the cheesemonger at your local deli about healthy melting cheeses. You may just start a snack time sensation in your house.

Doing Away with Dude Food

Okay guys, time to lay off the nachos and hot wings and find a respectable food to call your own. While these “dude foods” may have some serious memories of footballs games past attached, they’ve also got some real consequences. Take that gradually expanding belt notch for instance. (Not to mention the perpetual stains on the TV room couch). It’s no secret that as your waistline increases, so does your risk for heart disease.

What you may not know is that there are plenty of foods that will keep your hunger satisfied and your waist from expanding. One of these is whole grains. What’s great about whole grains is that they contain both the germ and the outside layer of the grain called the hull. This means lots of fiber. As opposed to those chips you’ve been eating, fiber will fill you up so you won’t keep grabbing for more long after you should.

Sure you can get whole grain crackers and chips these days if crunchy munching is a must, but there are even better ways to incorporate them into your diet. Try mixing quinoa or brown rice into your next bowl of chili or stew. Fill burritos or tacos with brown rice instead of white. The great news is you can continue use all the hot sauce you want and it’ll still be good for you.
