Scratch Prep and Get Cooking
There’s cooking from scratch and then there’s using the mix. While purchasing, peeling, chopping and prepping can be extremely gratifying, not to mention tasty, they’re also pretty time consuming. On the other hand, using the mix doesn’t taste as good, isn’t as healthy and (let’s be honest) feels kind of cheap.
Fortunately, these days there’s something that falls into that middle ground that helps you save time, while preparing fantastic food. We like to think of it as simplified scratch. The good news is it’s as easy as purchasing a few minutes here and there in the form of pre-prepped ingredients.
Your meal doesn’t taste a whole lot different whether you do the chopping or let someone else do it for you. Nowadays you can find chopped onions, peppers and other fresh veggies in the produce aisle right next to those that you’d spend precious time preparing. Peeled and chopped garlic and ginger make seasoning a breeze and foods like chopped sundried tomatoes or pitted olives add great flavor without fuss.
In other words, rather than taking on time consuming tasks, create dishes from ingredients that have been prepared for you. For example, when your recipe calls for cooked rice purchase sliced frozen whole grain Village Harvest Brown Rice, if it calls for diced tomatoes use the ones in a can that are recipe ready. Each of these tastes as good as if you did it yourself, only now there’s less clean up and more time to enjoy your food. Now just think how good that would taste!
